Max Is Mesmerising

Our team just had to be there to witness Max Cooper, a multi-disciplinary electronic composer, at the Roundhouse in Camden. It was a breathtaking fusion of art and science, redefining how electronic music can channel raw emotion. His 3D audiovisual live show was a fully immersive experience and engaged the senses with a masterful interplay of experimental sound, abstract visual collaborations and lucid lighting.

The visuals shifted between intricately layered animations and strikingly minimal compositions, evolving with the mood of the music. The result was a high-octane atmosphere – which felt both cosmic and deeply personal. Beyond comprehension yet intimate and spiritual.

Walking away, we were profoundly inspired – having witnessed how sound and visuals can come together to create something more grandiose and magnificent than the sum of their parts – a testament to Max’s mesmerising and visionary artistry.

After The Flood

London-based British artist David Surman has recently curated his latest exhibition, After the Flood, a deeply personal exploration of anthrozoology and mythology.

Through bold, thick brushstrokes and a vivid colour palette, Surman subverts traditional notions of "cuteness", depicting vascular, animated animals that pulse with life. His illustrative style, marked by expressive shapes and slightly warped perspectives, infuses each painting with movement and energy. Humour and playfulness are a throughline in his work, as his creatures often convey cheekily human features.

Raised on a farm in Devon and Scotland, Surman paints from memory, fostering an intimate connection with his subjects – large, characterful dogs, horses and birds that seem to leap, gallop and soar from the canvas.

The brilliance of the choice lies with creator Mike White, who strongly believes in the power of an opening sequence to set the tone, enlisting the expertise of the creative studio Plains of Yonder.

The studio has continued to evolve the show’s visual identity – transitioning from decaying wallpaper to Italian frescoes and now in Season 3, inspired by Thai temples and tapestry. The article offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how co-founders Mark Bashore and Katrina Crawford brought the project to life, building intrigue and sneakily hiding delicious Easter eggs throughout the piece with meticulous attention to detail.
